AGL is Australia's biggest climate polluter

With your help, we can make it Australia's biggest climate solution.

After years of effort by Greenpeace, our supporters, AGL’s customers, and their shareholders, AGL is on the cusp of transforming from Australia’s biggest climate polluter into one of Australia’s biggest climate solutions. We need your help to get them over the line.

Earlier this year AGL still planned to keep mining and burning climate-wrecking coal right out to 2048. Now, AGL has announced plans to bring forward the closure of its dirty coal-burning power stations to 2035 at the latest and replace them with clean, renewable energy. This is a huge win, and will avert the equivalent of half Australia’s total yearly emissions from our atmosphere. But, AGL still has more to do!

Both the UN and International Energy Agency warn that Australia’s coal power stations must close by 2030 at the latest to ensure a safer climate and economic future for Australia. As Australia’s biggest supplier of toxic gas to households, AGL must also lead the switch from gas to electrical appliances.

In order to achieve this, AGL must refresh its board of directors to ensure it has leaders with the skills and experience to take decisive action on climate change and transform the company into the renewable energy hero we know it can be.

AGL needs new leaders for a new era.

AGL’s existing board of directors are falling short, and refusing to support the election of new board members with the skills and experience necessary to help them accelerate their decarbonisation journey.

Four highly credible candidates have put their names forward to join the AGL board of directors. It’s crucial that AGL’s existing board members show their support for these new candidates before shareholders vote on them in November’s Annual General Meeting.
